Following Up: 2026 Town Tours Kick-Off
Posted May 8, 2026
The 32nd annual Chester County Town Tours & Village Walks program kicked off on April 30 at the Chester County Historic Courthouse in West Chester. The evening brought together residents, local officials, historic preservationists, and community members from across the county to celebrate Chester County's rich history and its role in the story of our nation as we prepare to commemorate its 250th anniversary.
PA State Representative Chris Pielli, the Chester County Commissioners, West Chester Mayor Lillian DiBaptiste, and other distinguished guests provided opening comments at the event. A special musical showcase was provided by the Lenape Brass.
"This 2026 tour season is aptly titled '13 Tours for 13 Colonies' and features the rich and diverse history of Chester County over the past 250 years, focusing on prominent heritage themes in our county," noted the Chester County Commissioners.
As one of Pennsylvania's three original counties, Chester County played a vital role in early American history through its economy, villages, farms, mills, and iron furnaces, all of which contributed to the growth and development of the young nation. This year's tours and lectures will connect visitors to these stories and places, spanning across the 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s.
"In this anniversary year, we hope there is a tour that resonates with you as we reflect upon the 250th anniversary of America and Chester County's history over the last 250 years+," said the Commissioners. "We hope that the 2026 season is one that showcases Chester County history, stories, and treasures, and highlights connections to our nation's history."
Prior to the kick-off event, the Chester County Community Foundation hosted a Dare to Declare program on the steps of the historic courthouse featuring readings from the Declaration of Independence, as well as the unveiling of a commemorative bell through Bells Across PA.
"Town Tours is a collaborative effort made possible by community partners and volunteers who come together every year to make this summer long event happen," noted Chester County Planning Commission's Executive Director, Matt Edmond. "I want to take a minute to express our thanks to them. Without their hard work and dedication, Town Tours would not be possible."
Residents of all backgrounds and interests are encouraged to participate in this year's Town Tours program, whether longtime attendees or first-time visitors. View more information on the tours.
