Transportation Resources for Rural & Agricultural Communities

Posted July 21, 2025
In 2020, drivers in rural areas faced nearly twice the fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles traveled compared to their suburban counterparts. With longer stretches of roadways to maintain and tighter budgets, rural landscapes face a unique set of transportation challenges. In Chester County, roughly 50 of our 73 municipalities contain rural or agricultural areas that need tailored solutions.
To help address these needs, the Chester County Planning Commission has released Transportation Resources for Rural & Agricultural Communities which offers resources for the county's rural and agricultural communities.
Built on two years of direct feedback from local stakeholders, the guide offers:
- Safety countermeasures
- Maintenance best practices
- Training and education opportunities
- Policy and design resources
- Funding programs and grant opportunities
