Chester County Historic Preservation Network
Chester County Historic Preservation Network (CCHPN) is a non-profit organization that provides support for grassroots historic preservation efforts. CCHPN strives to build connections between parties and serves as a countywide network for the exchange of historic preservation information. Their mission is to be an affiliation of local organizations and individuals dedicated to protecting and preserving Chester County’s historic resources and landscapes through education, facilitation, and public and private advocacy. Chester County History Center
The Chester County Historical Society inspires, informs, and builds community identity by preserving and sharing the remarkable story of Chester County and its people. The Historical Society fulfills this mission through: acting as steward of an unparalleled collection of artifacts, manuscripts, photographs and volumes that documents over 300 years of County heritage; offering innovative educational programs and exhibitions that draw on the collections to bring history to life, and helping audiences explore their own histories through Historical Society resources and staff expertise. Founded in 1893, the Chester County Historical Society is the official county history museum, history education center, and historical repository of Chester County, Pennsylvania. National Register of Historic Places
Authorized under the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, the National Register of Historic Places is the nation’s official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects of historical, architectural, engineering, and/or cultural significance to the prehistory and history of the locality, state, or nation that are deemed worthy of preservation. The list is maintained by the National Park Service (NPS) under the U.S. Department of the Interior. In Pennsylvania, the National Register is managed by PA Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC). The National Register is part of an overall national program “to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect historic and archeological resources.” Visit Website
Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission
NHPA authorized the creation of a State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to administer provisions of NHPA at the state level. In Pennsylvania, the agency assigned this responsibility is PA Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC). PHMC is responsible for maintaining and administering the state’s sites and museums, making determinations of eligibility for the National Register, managing the State Archives, and administering a variety of historic preservation programs. Brandywine Battlefield Task Force
The Brandywine Battlefield Task Force, formed in 1993, is a volunteer group of municipal, state, and federal representatives, as well as non-profit institutions, business, and residents working collaboratively to provide outreach and education and to preserve the Brandywine Battlefield, its history, and its resources. The mission is to preserve and promote the Brandywine Battlefield and its cultural landscapes by: coordinating public and private partnerships for resource preservation and land protection; raising public awareness about its cultural resources; and coordinating interpretation of the Battle and its cultural landscape.
Iron and Steel Heritage Partnership
The Iron and Steel Heritage Partnership's mission is to foster a better understanding of the Schuylkill Highland's contribution to iron and steel making in America. Visit Website
Harriet Tubman Byway
Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park interprets landscapes that were significant in Harriet Tubman’s life, many of which are practically unchanged. The related Harriet Tubman Scenic Byway connects sites in Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania to tell the story of Tubman’s life, perseverance, and lasting impacts. Visit Website
Kennett Underground Railroad Center
The Kennett Underground Railroad Center seeks to educate the public about the historic struggle of abolitionists, conductors, stationmasters, and freedom-seekers; bear witness to the values that challenged and ultimately caused an end to slavery in America; celebrate the oneness of the human spirit in the ongoing quest for freedom around the world; interpret and preserve the unique local heritage for future generations through tours, public speaking, re-enactments, published works, and eventually a learning center; identify buildings recognized as stations on the Underground Railroad and encourages and assists the owners to gain recognition of these sites on a local, state, or national level.
