A comprehensive plan is a planning tool that serves as the long-range policy vision for the County. It represents the direction the County plans to head in, working with our 73 municipalities and other key partners. The plan is prepared in accordance with the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, Act 247 which requires a county update every ten years. By law, the County Planning Commission is directed to lead the update process at the direction of the County Commissioners.
Once adopted by the Board of County Commissioners, the plan serves several roles:
- Establishes a strategy for balancing growth and preservation;
- Addresses issues that go beyond local municipal boundaries; and
- Provides guidance and a basis for county government actions, programs and funding opportunities.
